Hey There, I’m Emma.
The heart and soul behind ETT, a fearless leader and head psychotherapist, bringing a wealth of experience and a passion for helping others. With a background spanning over 9 years in mental health and addictions, I’ve honed my skills in psychotherapy since 2018, becoming an expert in relational trauma and mood disorders since 2021.
I often get asked why I ‘do what I do’
My response is straight forward…
All my life I have been fascinated by people, the way they talk, make connections, display strengths, enjoy the things they do, how creative they can be, what their unique stories are, and understanding their narratives.
For me, each individual is their own main character living in this thing called life. Throughout my own story I have aimed to be the person who is understanding and supportive, ensuring that no one feels alone or left out. Being of value to others. Now I get to hone that energy into people like yourself, ready for growth, broadening their minds, and a willingness to build a life they desire.

I hear you, I see you, I feel you
My life's journey has been a tapestry woven with threads of trauma, a car accident, bouts of depression, more trauma, and a misdiagnosis. I often wonder whose hasn’t. While I wish I could share all the intricate details, my words fall short. The essence of things is that I’ve also had a path laden with pain, challenges, and battles of my own.
I invested immense effort in processing these experiences, acquiring healthier coping mechanisms, and catalyzing behavioral change. Gradually, I molded a landscape of setting boundaries, allowing some to stand and recognizing when to lower others. The most pivotal accomplishment, however, was reclaiming the narrative of my story and reconstructing my ability to navigate emotions. Through it all, I clung to bravery like a lifeline.
And now, my mission has crystallized; the echoes of my own struggles and triumphs resonate as a powerful reminder that we're never alone in our battles.
This journey, my evolution, has guided me toward a purposeful path, one that I cherish. It's the fuel that propels me to be an advocate, to lock arms with those who confront their own bravery.
Let’s get a little personal…
Now that I’ve painted a small picture of why my heart and passion is to help others, let’s chat about how I do what I do.

As a Therapist…
My approach revolves around understanding you as the unique and amazing individual that you are while being in your corner. This is why I enjoy a less structured approach, blending a mix of therapeutic methods. For ethical reasons, I need to list some of these, including trauma-informed care, humanistic, strength-focused, existential, person-centered, somatic psychology, biopsychosocial, and attachment-based.
Regarding the tools in my toolbelt, I'm well-versed in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and I'm currently expanding my knowledge in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I know that some of you might not understand these approaches fully, so I make sure to tackle any confusion or questions that you might have. After our initial assessment, we’ll explore different therapy styles and collaboratively decide which ones to use. Think of my toolbelt as your toolbelt!
As we journey together, your identity, experiences, and perspectives will shape our work, creating a bespoke and authentic experience. I'm honored to accompany you on this transformative path, navigating twists, turns, challenges, and triumphs that lie ahead. Together, we'll uncover your true potential, painting a picture of growth, resilience, and profound self-discovery.
I have a soft spot for understanding the brain and how our personalities develop over time. I love educating others about anything related to psychology. I also love it when my clients teach me new things too!
I typically don't limit the number of sessions; I prefer evaluating this as we progress. We'll both recognize when you're ready to 'graduate' from therapy.
I believe the mind and body are connected. In fact, I find psychology is the root of our overall well-being.
I don't always assign 'homework tasks’ (unless you're enthusiastic about them). In truth, I prefer to call it 'progress between sessions.' This is completely in your hands, only you can integrate resources and my guidance to make it beneficial for your lifestyle.
I will encourage you to think outside the box and motivate you to implement change where it’s needed.
I provide support in a way that generates lasting outcomes because I do not believe in quick fixes or putting band-aids on healing.
Using metaphors and anecdotes is a favourite of mine. They bring comfort and relatability to the table. Often enriching conversations and broadening perspectives.
I’m a big fan of promoting self-compassion, no matter what topic we’re exploring in session.
I shatter the mold of a conventional therapist; I laugh, cry, and explore with you. Instead of being a blank screen, I show that I am human too.

One Final Note
I want to share a quote with you, in hopes that it empowers you as much as it has me. These words have resonated and stuck with me over the years, often anchoring me in the present moment; literally, I have it tattooed on my back!
